The population of the governorate is about 700,000, and it is largely inhabited by the Bedouin.

Outreach:

All of Abyan’s clients are women, and it makes exclusive use of a group lending methodology. In addition, almost 100% of Abyan’s staff is women, including its director.

Grameen Foundation support:

Abyan will use the capital from the $100,000 loan provided by Grameen Foundation with funding from the Mosaic Foundation to expand outreach. Abyan participated in a SEEP Training Workshop ran by Grameen-Jameel in June 2007. Grameen-Jameel also led a Business Planning Workshop in June 2007 that will generate a complete business plan by September.
