Saudi Arabia

The Need in Saudia Arabia

  • There are over 443,000 poor households in Saudi Arabia that could benefit from microcredit programs and services.

Known for its great oil wealth, Saudi Arabia also has a large segment of its population that is poor and has no access to financial services. Saudi Arabia has a population of more than 24 million, and it is estimated that 400,000 families could benefit from microcredit products and services. Women are particularly vulnerable to poverty and a lack of access to financial services.

Microenterprises operated by poor families in the Kingdom are varied and include street-side vending, small shops in local markets, itinerant trading, food processing and food shops, repair shops, tailoring, handicrafts, and small businesses in processing, manufacturing, trading, and more.
